Dance in BirminghamDancing in the City - Strictly Come Dancing has started something!There's been a huge increase of people wanting to take to the dance floor and Birmingham can cater for just about any kind of dance you want to learn.From ballroom dancing to Bollywood, ballet dancing to belly dancing, line dancing to Salsa and sexy Latin motion, Flamenco to twirling round poles you can find something for everyone. In our multi-cultural city you can do just about anything you want to. Birmingham is home to the Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Patrick Centre at the Hippodrome, dancing classes throughout the city at specialist dance centres and numerous clubs and adult education centres. One lady who has successfully set up her own company in Birmingham is Hina Chavda, artistic director of Hina and Co.
Hina and Co workshops experiment with a blend of Indian classical, Bollywood, Bhangra and Contemporary Dance giving dancers the opportunity to develop and become versatile dancers. They also have the opportunity to perform at local events and perform stage shows. Hina's been involved with dance events and festivals locally and internationally for most of her life, such as Mega Mela, and Sampad productions. She has worked with students teaching them at some of the first Bollywood dance classes in Birmingham. Hina also teaches at the Patrick Centre. ![]() Hina and Co have performed at two of the city's fantastic Artsfest weekends with a cast of students she has taught specifically for these productions. ![]() Join in her classes at: Bollywood Dance Classes St Chad's Church, Stoney Hurst Road, Erdington Every Monday 7-8 pm £20 for a 6 week course or £4 a lesson OR: Dance Xchange, Thorp Street, Birmingham Saturday 12-1 pm £3.50 a lesson You can always go to a show and watch rather than get on the floor yourself and there are some great shows to be seen. The local theatres have many lined up so just check out the websites for further details. Listed is just the tip of the iceberg, and if you go to a class you just might find you haven't got two left feet after all! A friend of mine has just signed on for a Salsa class so I just might have to get my dancing shoes out of retirement and join her.
